Former president Rawlings has revealed he was never interested in amassing wealth during his tenure as president of the Republic of Ghana.
Speaking in an interview with the media, the president revealed that the only offshore account he had was with that of the United Nations (UN).
According to him, the former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan had earlier pleaded with Rawlings while being the leader of the country.
"My wife and I were in office for nineteen years, by the time we were leaving office, we did not have even one dollar foreign account," Jerry Rawlings revealed.
Speaking to cadres of the opposition NDC in Accra, the former president revealed that it took him more than thirteen years to put up his personal house at Adjiringanno, a suburb of Accra.
Meanwhile, former President Jerry John Rawlings has disclosed that the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), risk remaining in opposition for long time if the party's focus is to re-capture power and free ‘criminals’ from prison.
The founder of the NDC who is clearly not happy about some recent happenings in the NDC has over the years criticized some top leaders of the party.
