It has emerged that the conversation of one of the electoral commissioners at the Bank of Ghana has been leaked.
The leaked tape, which is currently in the position of Daily Graphic, claims that one od the commissioners revealed how the EC boss, Charlotte Osei was about to rig the elections as she was often seen "in phone calls with the former president John Dramani Mahama".
Speaking in an interview to an undisclosed source, the electoral commissioner revealed that Charlotte Osei was strictly there for the biding of the opposition NDC.
The said electoral commissioner, during the private conversation also revealed that Charlotte Osei was showered with cash during the erstwhile Mahama administration, the commissioner revealed that a total amount of Gh¢250,000 was given to Madam Osei to furnish her private office - a clear indication that she was doing the bidding of the opposition NDC.
"... as members of the Commission, we committed to being neutral but I can tell you in confidence that she was given Gh¢250,000 to go and put up her office alone, not that building oo, just decorating her office. The [NDC] people, they themselves told me, it’s an open secret, anyway," she revealed.
The heads of these two institutions have waded into the controversy surrounding the top officials of the Electoral Commission. According to them, the action would pave way for proper investigations to be carried out.
In a joint statement, the heads of the two institutions, Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey – Executive Director of IDEG – and Maj. Gen. Nii Carl Coleman (Rtd) of the CFI further tasked the president to consult with the Chief Justice, the Speaker of Parliament and the Chairman of the Council of State, so that an interim chair of the EC would be appointed immediately.
Meanwhile, investigations are still ongoing over the pressing corruption allegation against these commissioners.
