Deputy General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Koku Anyidoho, has been charged with treason.
According to a leading member of the NDC, Sylvester Mensah, the charge was revealed to them after they spent several hours at the Police Headquarters.
With this charge, Mr Anyidoho will not be granted bail.
Koku Anyidoho was arrested on Tuesday afternoon after he warned that the move by President Nana Akufo-Addo to sign the US-Ghana military cooperation deal is a sign that his administration will soon be overthrown.
According to Koku, Ghana's political history will soon be repeated and that President Akufo-Addo "will end up like his father, who was overthrown together with Dr KA Busia in 1972."
Koku was arrested at the Ghana International Press Centre in Accra where he was addressing a press encounter.
Meanwhile, some NDC supporters who stormed the Police Headquarters following the arrest their Deputy General Secretary have reportedly clashed with the police.
Unconfirmed reports suggest one woman was shot and had to be rushed to the hospital.
