Information reaching YEN.com.gh from the quarters of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims that the deputy general secretary of the party, Koku Anyidoho, will be released today, March 29th.
Deputy communications officer of the party, Kwaku Boahen, has stated that Koku Anyidoho will be released from the custody of the CID by 1:00 PM on the afternoon of Thursday, March 29th, 2018.
“All NDC members in Greater Accra will converge to give him a rousing welcome,” he revealed in an interview with Nhyria FM in Kumasi.
Despite being denied bail by the police, lawyers of Koku Anyidoho are 'pleading' for his immediate release.
The deputy general secretary has been in the custody of the police for over 24 hours now despite interventions by the former president, John Mahama, to get him out.
One of the lawyers, Edudzi Tamakloe told Joy News Wednesday they have made a "humble prayer" to the police to grant the deputy NDC General Secretary bail.
Meanwhile, founder of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings, is calling for calm following the arrest of deputy general secretary of the party, Koku Anyidoho.
Koku Anyidoho was arrested after making some "treasonable" statements on live radio. His arrest has seen the opposition NDC raise condition over power play by the government.
So far, the deputy general secretary has been denied bail by the CID - a development which saw former president Mahama visit him at an undisclosed location together with some top-level members of the party.
YEN.com.gh is gathering that the former president entered into a closed-door meeting with the director general of the CID, DCOP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah.
It is believed the appearance by John Mahama was for him to find best ways of engaging police officials over the "treasonable" comments made by the deputy secretary general of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho.
Mahama was seen with some top officials of the NDC including former attorney general and head of legal counsel for Koku Anyidoho, Betty Mould Iddrisu. Meanwhile, the Ghana police have called for calm over the arrest of Koku Anyidoho.
The police department revealed that it will follow due process in the investigation of the offense suspected to have been committed by Koku Anyidoho.
Koku Anyidoho was arrested during a press conference at the International Press Centre in Accra where he was addressing a press encounter.
Koku Anyidoho's statement follows that of a self-acclaimed prophet, Cosmos Walker, who warned of an imminent overthrow of the president of the republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
