Officials of the Economic and Organized Crimes Office (EOCO) are reportedly investigating a case involving the disappearance of GHc700,000 from the account of the Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Education, Winneba.
According to MyNewsGH.com, two students of the university, Adjei Kwame Nkrumah and Alfred Bismarck Amevor, petitioned the Vice Chancellor of the university, with respect to misappropriation of the money.
The money was allegedly withdrawn from the SRC accounts at various times to cover expenditures which could not be verified.
YEN.com.gh understands that the amounts so taken were not captured as cost arrears or debts to be paid by SRC in its Final financial statement for the 2016/2017 academic year presented to the Local Assembly on 28th April, 2017.
They were deemed to be unauthorized and illegal because, the officers mentioned handed over to new officers of 2017/2018 academic year, and no longer held office as at the time of withdrawing those monies.
The SRC leaders to face disciplinary committee over the issue include Jarvis K. Koffie, the SRC President, Emmanuel K. Amoako, the Vice President and Chairman of the Finance Committee, Ebenezer Cudjoe, the SRC Secretary and Isaac Afful, the SRC Financial Secretary.
The rest Gertrude Mensah, SRC Treasurer, Gaou Sapaku, the SRC Council Attorney and Jehu-Appiah Jojo, the Audit Board Chairman. All members of the Finance and Executive Committees were also named in the petition.
