- A group of armed men have attacked a police patrol team and seized a vehicle from them
- The assailants then used the car to undertake a number of robberies at selected locations
- Investigations are however underway in order to apprehend the culprits
Seven armed men, on Friday, March 30, 2018, overpowered a police patrol team at Sankore, in the Brong Ahafo Region, and seized their vehicle.
According to a statement issued by the police, their assailants later used the seized vehicle to undertake series of robberies at targeted locations, including the residence of the Member of Parliament (MP) of the area, Eric Opoku.
Four people, including a police officer, are currently receiving treatment for cutlass wounds following the attack.
The MP for Asunafo South, Eric Opoku, under whose jurisdiction the incident occurred, stated that the armed men first confronted the police at Abuom Junction which leads to Sankore, thereby preventing them from patrolling the community.
However, the joint police-military patrol team forced its way into the area, and went ahead to undertake its legitimate duty.
The District Police Commander for Sankore, DSP Robert Akwasi Boakye, revealed that has revealed that investigations are underway in order to apprehend the ringleader, known as Godfred Amponsah.
He went on to say that police chiefs have visited the town to get first-hand information about the attack on the security forces
