- Dr Bawumia who met Atuguba recently at an event 'teased' him on the 2012 Supreme Court election petition
- The Vice President reminded Justice Atuguba of his popular 2012 slogan "you and I were not there"
The Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia locked the ribs of his audience at the launch of the 2018 “Tax and Good Governance Week” when he ‘teased’ Supreme Court judge Justice William Atuguba with his popular 2012 election petition slogan.
Dr Bawumia, the then Vice Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was a regular guest at the Supreme Court election petition during cross-examination often resorted to the phrase: “You and I were not there” to direct opposing counsel to base their arguments on facts before the court.
However, six years down the line, Dr. Bawumia who now occupies the vice presidential position at the time wanted the Supreme Court to declare the 2012 election in favour of his party.
The Vice President who was handed over the microphone recently at an event to address the gathering where Justices Atuguba was present skillfully defused the tension by recalling the slogan to suit the occasion.
Bawumia after receiving the microphone expressed gratitude to the announcer before proceeding to break his silence.
“Supreme Court Justice William Atuguba representing the Chief Justice, I’ll say your Lordship that today, you and I are here. And your Lordship today you and I will file our taxes,” the former deputy governor of the Bank of Ghana ‘teased’ Justice William Atuguba to a loud and spontaneous laughter.
Dr. Bawumia then used the occasion to appeal to Ghanaians to pay their taxes so that the country carry out more developmental activities.
