Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win has found himself in trouble with Dr Stephen Opuni, a former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD).
Lil Win, alongside Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) and Daniel Nii Odoi Tutuwani, a producer at Adom TV has been hit with a GHC10m defamation suit by Dr Opuni.
The suit, filed at the Accra High Court on Tuesday, 24 April 2018, has Lil Win as the third defendant while Multimedia and Tutuwani are the first and second defendants respectively.
According to the suit, on or about the 24th day of March 2018, on the prime evening hour of 7pm, MGL and Daniel Nii Odoi Tutuwani caused to be broadcast and published; and Lil Win broadcast and published as part of the very popular programme entitled: ‘Don’t Think Far News’, defamatory words in a mixture of the Twi and English languages.
The suit explained that the defendants showed a recording of numerous metal boxes in rooms which were filled to the brim with US$100 bundles and stated as a fact that these said metal boxes filled with these said notes were found in the house of Dr Opuni.
The further translated the programme which is largely broadcast in Twi and the translation pointed to the fact that Dr Opuni had hoarded over GHC2 billion and had tried to run away from the country when power changed hands in 2016.
Dr Opuni is, therefore, seeking a restraining order to prevent the defendants from further publications of the said defamatory comments.
Dr Opuni is also seeking a retraction and apology on six consecutive times on Ghana Television, TV3, Joy TV, Adom TV, a written publication on the website of Adom TV and Joy TV, together with four publications on the front and back pages of the Daily Graphic newspaper for four consecutive weeks.
Dr Opuni is currently in court facing 27 charges over allegations that he caused financial loss to the state during his time as COCOBOD boss.
