Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah has described as needless, the Artiste of the Year award given to the late Ebony Reigns at the recently held 2018 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
According to her the late Ebony was a good musician without any doubts but rewarding her after her death just unnecessary.
Speaking on SVTV Africa, Vicky said organizers of awards must learn to appreciate the living rather than appreciating the dead since the living need more encouragement to excel.
When asked if Ebony deserved Artiste of the Year award Vicky said,"If she was alive I would have agreed [but] I don't think we should celebrate the dead more than the living."
"She is dead and gone. She was very good and talented but once she is dead, she is dead."
Born Prisicilla Opoku Kwarteng, Ebony died on February 8 in a tragic accident in the Sunyani-Kumasi Highway.
But before her death, she had taken the Ghana music industry by storm with concurrent hits like Poison, Kupe, Sponsor, Hustle, and Maame Hw3 and she was highly tipped to become the first female to win the Artiste of the Year award.
True to predictions, Ebony won even in death, beating the likes of Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, Carlos is and Joe Mettle.
She also won two other awards, Afro Pop Song of the Year and the Album of the Year.
But for Vicky Zugah stressed that the accolade should have gone to a living musician to encourage and urge them on.
"The main purpose of awards is to encourage people to do better, so I don't see the need of awarding the dead," she said.
