Fancy Gadam winning the Most Popular Song of the Year generated lots of brouhaha at this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards as many widely tipped One Corner hitmaker, Patapaa to carry the day.
Ghanaian rapper, M.anifest, known in real life as Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, has added his voice to the ongoing debate by insisting that it was wrong and unfair for the award organizers to have left the final decision entirely to the general public.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz on Accra-based Hitz FM, M.anifest said he knew the objective of the voting system but still found it inappropriate by the way it was used because he believed people with money could easily sway the outcome of the votes.
He opined that, “I get the idea behind the votes but I think it’s flawed. I would change it if I were in control. It becomes an election so the one with money win.
If you think about the awards, you will face the stark reality that might not change your life or financial position or certain things that will make you grow your fan base.”

It has been reported that Fancy Gadam garnered an impressive 80,000 votes in the category of ‘Song of the Year’. His closest rival in the category managed a meagre 10,000 votes, railing by a whopping 70,000 votes.
Fancy Gadam’s song, ‘Total Cheat’ was adjudged the ‘Most Popular Song’ in 2017 beating Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ which many thought should have won the accolade.
Patapaa, who appeared unhappy with the decision to pick Fancy Gadam’s song over his song, alleged that the Northern region-based musician had paid a bribe for his award.
However, the ‘One Corner’ hitmaker upon being handed over results of the votes rendered an apology to Charterhouse for his accusations.
