Virginity is the treasure of every young woman. Here in Ghana, virginity is seen both as spiritual and even social. In fact, ladies seen as virgins are respected for their piety and righteousness.
Ghanaian culture has it that during the honeymoon of a Ghanaian couple, there typically is a white sheet used as the bedspread so as to test the woman's virginity which is expected to be broken through the sight of a pint of blood.
But times have passed, women keep evolving and so has the topic of virginity. So many women are now breaking their virginity before marriage as they give the excuse that they wish to 'open their eyes'. This results in not just unwanted pregnancies but also the exposure to various sexually transmitted disease.
But the whole issue of virginity has transformed from the evidence of a blood on a white sheet to how 'tight' the parts of a lady could be. In fact, ladies are now using all kinds of vaginal tightening drugs aimed to make them look as virgins 'down there'.
But this, gynaecologist, Dr. Titus Beyou, finds worrying. The doctor says this act could even result in women becoming barren.
The doctor has revealed that these drugs expose women to all kinds of infections thus causing more damage than good.
‘’You only need water and not creams or drugs. The use of such creams will only cause infertility and infections in women,’’ he revealed.
