Bugri Naabu was involved in an accident ahead of the election and had hoped to get some sympathy votes to enable him retain his post.
To this end, he towed his mangled Land Cruiser vehicle to the venue of the election, hoping that the sight of it would draw sympathy from delegates and help to invigorate his faltering campaign.
The move drew swift condemnation from many Ghanaians on social media, and ultimately failed to pay off.
In the other results, Sule Sambian, a lawyer, won the reional secretary position, while Alhaji Rashid COP won the regional organiser position.
