You can’t talk about the top ten hottest rappers in Africa without mentioning Sarkodie. The rapper has been in the game for a while and has metamorphosed his style to be unique from others. In his career, he has accomplished milestones despite a humble beginning. Sarkodie awards are proof in the pudding that he is not one to mess with in a battle. His killer rhymes and punch lines has made his name in industry felt and respected.

He always renaissances himself with the change in the music industry and manages to stay on top judging by Sarkodie awards won. Sarkodie awards begin with being a BET winner which was the hallmark for his career. But he has also scooped many other awards in Ghana and the rest of the world. We have compiled a detailed list of Sarkodie awards and nominations he has earned in his career. The list of awards is impressive with a total of 75 awards from 137 nominations which are inclusive of 21 Ghana Music Awards.

It was in 2012 that the ‘illuminati’ hit maker made a name for him known to the rest of the world. This was when he was nominated for the most prestigious award for the BET Best International Act Africa. It was a tight battle pitching him against the best in the industry like the likes of at the time upcoming maestro Wizkid, the former Kenyan hiphop band Camp Mulla, Ngerian rapper and singer Ice Prince, South Africa singing sensation Lira and Malian artist Mokobe.

In the same year, he was also nominated for the Best Worldwide Act which was another feather in his cap during the prestigious MTV Europe Music Award. It was a stiff battle which saw the inclusion of Nigerian singer Wizkid, Nigerian coco master D’Banj, South African band Mi Casa and Kenyan own hip hop crew Camp Mulla. Unfortunately he did not take home the award but it was good to know that his works were appreciated from across the globe. It paved for the many accomplishments that he achieved later.

Sarkodie BET awards 2014 saw him made to the nomination list with other great artists from Africa such as AKA, Yemi Alade, Fally Ipupa, Sauti Sol, Diamond Platinumz and Casper Nyovest. It was for the same award especially during the BET Awards in 2014 and 2015 where he was nominated for the award for Best International Act: Africa which was taken home by Ghana’s dancehall sensation Stonebwoy and later Nigerian’s blue eyed boy Wizkid. Many saw him get nominated for Sarkodie Grammy Awards but up to date the rapper still hasn’t made the list.

In the same span of year the rapper made it to the list of Non-Nigerian Artist of the Year during the Ovation Red Carol Awards where he took home the award. During the Headies awards in the same year, the rapper took home African Artist of the Year. The same award was won by the rapper in the year 2014 and 2015. The award was widely contested with nominees like the former P square duo, Wizkid, Ice Prince and D’Banj. Sarkodie personal awards include his award for achievement in music at the National Youth Achievement Award in 2012.

In his career, Sarkodie is the proudly owner of the EMY Awards for Best Entertainer in 2016. The award celebrates and tells the untold stories of great women and women in order to inspire and encourage others to aspire to be great. It also encourages leadership skills geared towards achievement as well as challenging the youth to aspire for greatness. The award saw him go against the greats like actor Adjetey Anang, poet Chief Moomen, dancehall sensation Shatta Wale and Kalybos.

This year was the year for the rapper especially at the 3 Music Awards where he took home not one or two awards but four wards in a row. The Hip life/Hip hop Act of the year award was hotly contested with other acts like E.L, Guru, Medikal, M. Anifest, Yaa Pono and Flowking Stone but at the end of the day it was Sarkodie who took home the award. He also bagged the Album of the Year which was ‘Highest,’ and best collaboration for Fancy Gadam and the rapper. It was surely the night for the star who was the most awarded artist of the night.

After his breakthrough in the industry upon release of his debut studio album, 2010 was a good starting year for the rapper who bagged 5 awards during the Ghana Music Awards. He started off the night by taking home award for Ghana Artiste of the Year. Later on, he was called forward to pick his award for Ghana Discovery of the Year. The night was far from over when he took home Ghana Hip life/hip hop artiste of the Year to the surprise of many. He finished off the night by taking home award for Album of the Year and Ghana Best Rapper of the Year.

During the 2012 edition of the awards, things did not look up for him as he bagged the Most Popular Song of the Year award which featured EL, Best Rapper of the Year and Artist of the Year. He however had several nominations such as Hip Hop song of the Year, Best Collaboration of the Year with Efya in ‘I’m in love with you,’ album of the year and the record of the year.

In 2013 he run out of his usual charm as he failed to bag any award despite having several nominations such as the Best Collaboration of the Year for ‘Azonto fiesta’ featuring Appietus and Kesse, Hip Hop song of the Year for ‘Pizza and Burger’ with Jayso and Highlife song of the Year for ‘Treat her loyal’ featuring Kese. The next year he took home two awards for Album of the Year for ‘Sarkology’ and Hip Hop song of the Year for ‘illuminati.’ He failed to secure Best Collaboration of the Year with his monster hit ‘Down on one’ featuring UK based Fuse ODJ.

2015 saw him walk away with best collaboration of the year for ‘Adonai.’ He also took home Vodafone song of the year for the same song as well as Hip life/Hip Hop artist of the Year. IN 2016, he was awarded with the Hip hop song of the Year for the hit single ‘Hand to Mouth’ as the single ‘Bra’ also won Record of the Year. Last year he was the recipient for the Hip life/ Hip Hop artist of the Year. During this year’s edition, he also won the Best Rapper award and the Hip Hop/ Hip Life artist of the Year.

The pain killer’ hit maker started off the year with an award for Best West African Act during the Caribbean American and African Nations Music Awards. This was a big deal especially for him since the award featured some of the top artists in the industry known all across the world. He was also nominated for the male musician of the year during the City People Entertainment awards but unfortunately he did not win.

He was also nominated the following year for the same award at the same even but still failed to take home the crown. It was nice seeing him take home the award for Western African Artist/ Group of the Year at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards.

During the MTV Africa Music Awards, the rapper was listed among the nominees to battle it out for the Best Hip Hop award which he took home gladly despite the stiff competition. He followed it up by scooping the African Artist of the Year award at the Ben Tv Awards. His winning streak at the Headies continued with him scooping the African Artist of the Year for three times consecutively. The hit single ‘illuminati’ was a classic and at the Independent Music Awards it was crowned Rap/ Hip Hop song.

The highlight of the year was especially the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards when two of our own great acts were nominated for the award. This included dancehall sensation Stonebwoy and Sarkodie. This would be their second award if they scooped it for the night. The had to battle it out with AKA (South Africa), Fally Ipupa(DR Congo), The Soil (South Africa) and Yemi Alade (Nigeria). Although, he did not take home the award, it was nice to see his fellow artist and longtime friend take home the award for Ghana.

Sarkodie performance at the BET Awards 2015 was nothing short of fantastic and memorable. To seal off the night, he thrilled fans with his jaw breaking rapping skills and punch lines. He rapped in the local language with the hopes that people around the world would understand it. Sarkodie's performance at the BET Experience will go down in memory as one to never forget especially from a Hip Hop master like him.

Although he did not win at the BET Awards, he took was the proud recipient of the Best Reggae Collaboration and Best Dancehall Collaboration Award at the Bass Awards for his works with Samini and Jupitar. He also led in term of VGMA nominees during this year’s edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards where he took home the Hip Life/Hip Hop artist of the year.
