The Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, which took place on Saturday, April 14, 2018, came with the usual comments and condemnations associated with such events.
One of the highlights of the programme was Patapaa’s exit from the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), after the Most Popular Song of The Year Award was given to Fancy Gadam for his song, ‘Total Cheat.’
A cross-section of Ghanaians was however convinced that Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ should have carried the day.
On Saturday, May 5, 2018, the Ghana DJ Awards took place at the AICC, and Patapaa showed up, wearing a yellow T-shirt over a pair of black shorts with grey sneakers to match.
YEN.com.gh brings to you 5 reasons why the ‘One Corner’ hitmaker opted for such a simple outfit:
1. Mockery of his VGMA suit:
Patapaa became the subject of mockery when he showed in a blue suit at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs). Certainly, he was not ready to 'suffer' a second time.
2. The occasion:
The Ghana DJ Awards is an annual event to award disc jockeys. Perception about DJs, as well as the likely programme of activities often determines the outfit to be worn. In such a case, T-shirts are not exactly out of the picture.
A gathering of DJs is one that often adopts an informal approach. A participant in such an event will therefore insist on comfort when considering the outfit for the programme.
4. Perception about DJs:
In Ghana, disc jockeys are not often seen in formal wear, as the nature of their work requires that they work 'behind the scenes.' In such cases, a semi-formal or informal wear is usually the best bet.
5. The media:
The media played a role in the dissemination of information about Patapaa's infamous suit for the VGMAs. A video, which captured him leaving the auditorium with his team, spread like wildfire on social media.
