- Nana Addo says the founder of the University of Ghana is JB Danquah
- JB Danquah, according to Nana Addo, spoke against the establishment of a general university in Nigeria
- The president spoke at the 70th anniversary of the University
President of the republic, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, has revealed that his late uncle, JB Danquah, founded the University of Ghana.
Speaking at the University's 70th anniversary, Nana Addo narrated that JB Danquah had refused the colonial government’s decision to construct a single university in Ibadan, Nigeria for British West Africa ( all colonies under Britain including Ghana).
“It will be wholly appropriate and not at all far-fetched to describe Joseph Boakye Danquah as the founder of this University. Forgive me for rubbing it in, but three of the five presidents elected in this republic have been produced here," the president revealed.
This statement by the president follows an earlier one the speaker of parliament made stating JB Danquah was one of the founding fathers of Ghana and not only Kwame Nkrumah.
