After the success of his first single ‘holla at your boy’ it was with no clear doubt that he had embarked on his journey to success. The studio album Superstar was released on the 12th of June, 2011 under the Emire Mates Entertainment that is currently run by Banky W. The album was a star studded one and featured a lot of famous producers at the time including Samklef, E-kelly, Jay Sleek, DJ Klem, Shizzi, Masterkraft, Q-Beats, Banky W and Veebee. It also had a strong lineup of guest appearances from Skales, D’Prince, Banky W, and Wande Coal. The executive producers for the album were Bank W, Segun Demurun, Tunde Demurun and Stanley Ekuro.
Even though it was more of an complete album supported by six singles from ‘Holla at your boy’, ‘Tease me’, ‘don’t dull’, Wizkid I love my baby’, ‘pakurumo’, ‘oluwa lo ni’, and ‘gidi girl’. Other singles from the album included ‘say my name’, ‘no lele’, ‘scatter the floor’, ‘slow whine’ featuring Banky W, ‘what you wanna do’, ‘for me’ featuring Wande Coal, ‘wad up with D’Prince and ‘shout out’. The album was a mix of different genres ranging from afro-beat, afro-pop, reggae, dance-hall to R&B.
The star revealed in an interview that the album was scheduled on the Valentine’s Day but due to lots of production it would not have cut for the special date. Even though he had debut as an Afro-beat artist the album borrowed various musical styles and lyrical themes throughout the album. The album was more of a triumphant revelation of the struggles he had faced in his life. It is also a reference to God who has made the star reach these heights. Wizkid Empire state of mind album – 2012
Following the success of the previous album ‘Superstar’ Wizkid chose to cement his stay at the throne by thrilling fans with another compilation album. The compilation album featured the works of artists like Banky W and Skales under the Empire Mates Entertainment. The album was dropped on the 18th June of 2012 which was around the same time last year when ‘Superstar’ was dropped. The album featured executive producers: Banky W, Segun Demuren, Stanley Ekuro and Tunde Dumerun.
It also features the works of top producers like Legendury Beatz, Sarz, Masterkraft, Cobhams Asuquo, Kid Konnect and Speelz. Guest appearances were made by X.O Senavoe and Rotimi wth funny skits by Basket Mouth. Some of the ht singles from the album included ‘baddest boy’, ‘dance for me’, ‘get down tonight’, ‘ko mo le’, sun’, and ‘change’. The album was exclusively released on Spinlet which at the time was the first premier distribution platform. Before the launch of the album, there was a listening party that was one of a kind to celebrate the album.
‘Baddest boy’ single really received massive airplay and was the highlight of the compilation album, produced by Legendury Beatz with contributing vocals from Banky W, Wizkid and Skales with the official music video produced by Clarence Peters. The second hit single was ‘Dance for me’ produced by Sarz with the music video produced by Sesan. ‘Sun Mo Mi’ was a star studded song that was fifth to be released and produced by Banky W and Masterkraft. The Clarence Peter’s music video featured cameo from Niyola, Iyanya, Slim T among others.

‘Ayo’ translated to English means joy. The release of the album Ayo saw the growth of the star in the music industry as it marked the end of his tenure at the Empire Mates Entertainment music record label. It marked the beginning of his own record label dubbed ‘starboy’. It was released on the 17th of September 2014. It had been long awaited by eager fans and postponed twice due to the hard selections of songs to make the album. The album brought together the genius minds of production from Sarz, Shizzi, Uhuru, Del B, Dokta Frabz, Maleek Berry, Legendury Beatz and Spellzz.
The list of collaboration and guest appearances was impressive as it brought Femi Kuti, Seyi Shay, Akon, Banky W, Tyga, Phyno Yemi Sax and Wale. It was precedeb by hit singles like ‘jaiye jaiye’, ‘joy’, on top of your matter’, ‘one question’ and ‘show you the money’ that were currently making headlines and rounds around the globe. The first single off the album was ‘jaiye jaiye’ which featured Nigerian Grammy nominated legend Femi Kuti and went on to release a music video produced by sesan which has garnered 10 million views on YouTube.
A bonus song was added to the album ‘caro’ with featured L.A.X produced by Legendury Beatz. The video was produced by London Based video producer Mr. Moe Musa and has managed to gain over 22 million views on YouTube. The song made the nominations at the 2014 Nigerian Entertainment Awards under the category for Hottest Single of the Year. Another song that crossed the international borders was with the sixth single ‘show you the money’ produced by Shizzi. The video to the song was produced by Patrick Ellis and has 23 million views.
At the Headies awards, the album took home the award for Best R&B/Pop Album and was nominated as the Album of the Year at the Nigeria Entertainment Awards. Other singles that performed exemplary from the album include ‘in my bed’ produced by Uhuru with over 10 million views on YouTube. He also released his international collaboration with Wale for hit single ‘nobody but you’ which was produced by Maleek Berry. He also featured international hip hop sensation Tyga in the remix to ‘show you the money’.

This is the latest offering that makes the studio album and a major label debut. The album was produced by Starboy Entertainment in conjunction with RCA Records and Sony Music Entertainment. It is a fusion of different sounds and genres including Afrobeat, EDM, R&B and house. The album has a star studded lineup of stars from Chris Brown, Major Lazer, Ty Dolla Sign, Efya, Drake, Efya and Bucie. It was also produced by a host of different producers including DJ Mustard, Dre Skull, Sarz, Del B, Major Lazer and the Picard Brothers.
Upon its release on the 14th June of 2017, it made its debut at number 107 on the US Billboard 200. It climbed to the 58TH spot on the Canadian Album Chart. Before the release of the album, the star had previously released hit singles including ‘come closer featuring Drake ’,‘ sweet love, daddy yo’ with Efya.
