The Black Stars of Ghana will not be at the World Cup 2018 but we at YEN.com do not think it will change much.
Ghanaians are going to watch the World Cup which means Ghana will not be missing in Russia.
Here are five reasons why Ghanaians will watch the World Cup in our huge numbers:
1. The stars we watch on a weekend basis are in there
This is the easiest but most important reason we will watch the World Cup. An incredible majority support club teams outside our country.
People find it easier to name Real Madrid’s regular starting line as against Accra Hearts of Oak’s. And the Marcelos, Cristianos, Hazards and Messis are all going to be doing their thing in Russia.

2. We are currently out of love with the Black Stars
The love affair between the Black Stars and Ghanaians has waned since at least, 2014. The team was kicked out in the group stage in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. And then everyone remembers THAT embarrassing affair with money and punched faces.
Since then, a final and semi final finishes in two AFCONS have done nothing to bring back the feelings of old. So if you think about it, it is safe to say Ghanaians will not really miss the Black Stars at this year’s World Cup.
3. Most Ghanaians have a second national team
Apart from supporting international club teams, most Ghanaians football addicts have another national team they cheer on. These second nations are not necessarily countries these Ghanaians would like to live in.
They are just countries with either a good footballing history or big-name players. It is no surprise then that the likes of Brazil, Argentina, France, England, Spain and Germany have fans in Ghana.
4. The fever will be everywhere and we will catch it
From the kick-off in the opening game to the last whistle in the final on July 15, the World Cup will be everywhere. TV, radio, newspaper and digital media will be filled with images of fans and fanatics as well as players and pundits.
It will be impossible to escape it. We will catch the fever and maybe that is a good thing.
5. African pride
The issue of African pride has always been big at the World Cup. For a continent that is thought to see very close relations among its nations, Africa will be on the mind of Ghanaians.
Ghanaians will support Senegal, Egypt, Nigeria, Tunisia and Morocco. Hopefully this time, we will have a country breaking the quarter final curse for Africa.
