Police search for 3 men who attacked police officers

- The police are searching for three men who attacked two police officers in the Eastern Region

- They attempted to take weapons from the police officers

- They however fled the scene when a patrol team arrived

The police in the Eastern Region have begun a search for three people who attacked two police officers on duty at Sambuor police barrier near Mpraeso Adawso in the Kwahu South District.

The men, who were wearing masks suddenly emerged from a bush which was close to the barrier and opened fire on the officers, Sergeant Kennedy Asah and Corporal Eric Aboagye Dankwah.

The AK 47 rifle belonging to the police malfunctioned and was therefore of no help in an attempt to return fire.

A tussle between Sergeant Assah and one of the attackers ensued as the officer tried to wrestle a shotgun from the assailant.

The officer however sustained a gunshot wound on his right foot as the gun went off amid the struggle.

The masked men managed to escape before a police patrol team arrived at the scene. Three empty AA cartridges and four live cartridges were retrieved from the scene.

The injured sergeant was also rushed to the Atibie government hospital where he was treated and responding to treatment.
