Police arrest 24-year-old for attempting to sell AK47 rifle

- A 24-year-old man attempted selling a rifle on the open market after a client failed to purchase it on delivery

- The suspect's accomplice is currently on the run but the police have mounted a search to get him arrested

The Police in the Kpandai District in the Northern Region have arrested a 24-year-old man for attempting to sell an AK47 rifle on open the market on Wednesday.

The suspect, Mensah Lare, according to a Graphic.com.gh report, was arrested at Buya, near Kpandai based on a tip-off by some residents of the area who suspected him of engaging in a nefarious activity.

The District Police Commander, DSP, Francis Akwasi Asante who confirmed the arrest, said the police received information that a young man on an unregistered motorbike was offering a rifle for sale at Buya and quickly dispatched personnel to the community.

According to DSP Akwasi Asante, after thorough search in the community the personnel accosted the suspect who was carrying an AK 47 rifle in a fertilizer bag and heading to an unknown location.

The District Police Commander revealed that preliminary investigations have revealed that, one Yaw, a native of Balai, near Kpandai sent the suspect to find a prospective buyer at Buya, but upon realizing that the buyer was no longer interested, he decided to offer the gun to any interested person in the community.

He said the police proceeded to Balai to arrest Yaw, to assist with investigations, but he absconded upon sensing danger.

Meanwhile, the Police are still investigating the matter to prosecute the suspect and all other persons in connecting with the case.
