- The Spaniard will leave his post as assistant to Pep Guardiola at Manchester City
- Arteta is expected to sign a four year contract at the Emirates
Arsenal are set to name Arsene Wenger's replacement next week. Reports indicate it is going to be former Gunner Mikel Arteta. The former midfielder is said to have agreed in principle to be Arsenal's head coach.
Arteta, who is currently Pep Guardiola's assistant at Manchester City, is expected to pen a four-year deal with Arsenal on Monday. It is thought that his appointment is supported by all the bigwigs at the club, not least the CEO, Ivan Gazidis.
The Spaniard will be allowed to form his own backroom staff. This has led to rumours that he will be calling on Santi Cazorla and former Liverpool star, Xabi Alonso to his coaching team.
Arsene Wenger's assistant Steve Bould, is on his way out.The future of Jens Lehmann is uncertain too although he had been promised a role by the club.
Arteta has already started marking his territory by having physio, Gary Lewin sacked. Lewin has been at Arsenal for 23 years.
Arteta spent five seasons at Arsenal after joining from Everton in 2011. He went on to make 110 appearances and scored 16 goals. He would have big shoes to fill if he is to emulate the legendary status of Arsene Wenger.
