New Patriotic Party (NPP) loyalist, Hajia Fati, has appeared in court for the first time over the incident of her slapping a journalist at the party's headquarters in Accra.
Hajia Fati who has been charged with assault and damage of property was arraigned before the Adjabeng Magistrate Court on Monday.
She pleaded not guilty to both charges and was admitted to bail in the sum of GH₵ 10,000 with one surety.
The facts of the case as read to her and included the fact that she admitted to hitting complainant in her caution statement.
Addressing the court, Police prosecutor Inspector Greg Yeboah disclosed that investigations have been completed.
But the lawyers of Hajia Fati, led by Nkrabea Effah Dateh, pleaded for bail for her and assured that she will make herself available for trial.
He told the court that the facts of the case have been unnecessarily bloated in a wide media trial of the accused.
He also announced to the court that attempts are being made to settle the case since it is a misdemeanour amenable to settlement by law.
Hajia’s lawyer, therefore, pleaded for a longer adjournment with the hope that the parties shall possibly return on the next date with terms of a settlement.
The case has been adjourned to the 18th of June 2018.
Hajia Fati, it will be recalled, slapped Adom FM journalist Ohemaa Sakyiwaa who had visited the NPP's offices to cover events surrounding the rejection of an attempt by Sammy Crabbe to contest for the party's chairmanship.
Ohemaa Sakyiwaa tried to capture scuffle that ensued on her phone but Hajia Fati who played a leading role in thwarting Sammy Crabbe prevented the Adom FM journalist's attempt by slapping her and smashing her phone.
Hajia Fati's claim at the time that the lady she slapped did not look like a journalist but an onion seller irked sections of Ghanaians who condemned her actions.
She later came to offer a public apology and even visited Adom FM to personally apologise to her victim.
