Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich emigrates to Israel

- Roman Abramovich has taken up Israeli citizenship after his UK visa issue is yet to be resolved

- His visa expired a couple of weeks back and he has filed for renewal but it is taking longer time to due to rigorous measures by the UK government

- He however will settle down in Tel Aviv where he will be allowed to stay for about 10 years without paying tax

Russian billionaire and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has reportedly been granted Israeli citizenship following his failure to get his UK visa renewed in time according to Goal.

The 51-year-old missed out of the Blues FA Cup celebration after beating Manchester United to win their only title last season due to the expiration of his visa.

However, his efforts to get the visa renewed have been greeted with loads of rigorous activities by the UK government after the incident of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter.

Meanwhile, Abramovich has decided to live in Israel, where he is eligible to live due to the Law of Return which allows followers of the Jewish faith to move to the country.

Roman Abramovich arrived at the Israeli embassy in Moscow like any other person.

He filed a request to receive an immigration permit, his documents were checked according to the Law of Return, and he was indeed found eligible,” a spokesperson told Israeli television station Channel 10.

According to, the Chelsea owner will be eligible for 10 years of tax-free status in Israel, during which time he will not need to declare the source of his income.

Reports filtering the media from Israel however suggest that the Russian might settle down in Tel Aviv, having bought a property from actress Gal Gadot valued at $12.5bn (£9.4bn), he has become the richest person in Israel.

Roman Abramovich took over at Chelsea as the owner of the club in 2003 and soon transformed the club investing so much money in it and signing quality coaches and players.

The Blues have since then won a Champions League title and an Europa League cup among other domestic trophies since he bought the club.

They finished 5th on the English topflight table at the end of the recently concluded season and they will campaign in the Europa League again next term.

The Blues clinched their only silverware this season after beating Manchester United 1-0 in their last match of the season.
