- Jerry Rawlings says he is not worth 50 million dollars
- The former president says claims that he is rich are unfounded
Former president of the republic and founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry Rawlings says he is not part of the league of richest men in Ghana.
Jerry Rawlings, in a speech, to commemorate the June 4th commemoration argued that he is not worth 50 million dollars as has been portrayed by some reports on the richest men in Ghana.
Existing reports have shown that Rawlings is one of richest men in Ghana at the 9th position with a fortune worth $50 million dollars but Rawlings argues that he is nowhere near this figure of wealth.
“When they are tabling all the billionaires that we have, they put Rawlings at number 9 I think…and they have given me 50 million dollars. They play these games as a way of whitewashing themselves…the thieves among us, so that if Rawlings has 50 million dollars there is nothing wrong with it…If I had it, I would have worked honestly for it but I don’t," he revealed.
So far, the entire wealth accumulation of the former president is unknown. In fact, there are wild claims that Jerry Rawlings amassed so much wealth under his double tenure in office as a military leader and elected president of Ghana. But as it stands now, none of these claims have been confirmed nor tried in a court of law.
