Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician, Rex Omar, has disclosed that there is no genre of music known as gospel music.
According to the musician, gospel music genre didn’t exist until it was created out of highlife music.
Speaking on Bohye FM, the famous singer indicated that he has a couple of songs on his highlife albums which has gospel message.
“There is no genre of music called gospel. If you listened to any of my albums, you will know that I have what Ghanaians call it gospel on it. There is not a single album from me which doesn’t have a gospel song,” Rex Omar said.
The talented singer further added that, “Even ‘Nhyira’ that I came out with is highlife but it is gospel. The genre is highlife but it is the message that determines whether it is a gospel song or not.”
The musician in his media interview noted that every song that has good content and message qualifies as gospel music.
When asked whether he would manage any Ghanaian artiste, Rex said he is still monitoring some artistes and at the right time, he will venture into that field.
