Chief in court for defrauding a nurse over Toyota Corolla

- A sub chief has been charged by court for defrauding a nurse in a car deal

- Nana Kofi Assumaning Ababio is currently on a Ghc15,000 police inquiry bail

A sub chief of Agogo traditional area, Nana Kofi Assumaning Ababio, has pleaded not guilty to charges of defrauding by false pretence and would reappear before court on June 27, 2018.

Nana Kofi Assumaning Ababio, has been granted bail by the Juaso Circuit Court to the sum of GHC 15,000.00 with one surety to be justified.

The Chief is currently standing court trial for allegedly defrauding a nurse under the pretext of assisting him buy a car.

According to Police Chief Inspector Birikorang Peasah, the prosecution told the court presided over by Mr. Yusif Assibey, that the accused was a sub chief at Agogo and a medical practitioner.

The complainant, Felix Tutu Okyere, a nurse at Tepa Government Hospital got to know the accused through work and some friends.

Prosecution said the complainant who later became a friend of the accused expressed interest in buying a car for his private use.

But the accused told the complainant that he had a customs officer friend who could assist him purchase a Toyota Corolla saloon car by auction.

He [the accused] then requested for an amount of GHC 14,500.00 which the complainant paid on August 7, last year after, of which he promised to deliver the said vehicle in a week.

However, he failed to honor his promise and several efforts by the complainant to retrieve his money then proved futile.

This was said to have led to some altercations and misunderstandings between the two, forcing the nurse [Felix Tutu Okyere], to make formal complaint to the police, leading to his arrest.
