Players to watch out for at the World Cup aside Ronaldo and Messi

The World Cup is fast approaching as teams have already been arriving Russia to participate in the showpiece.

The tournament have always produced top quality players that will rule the world for a couple of years.

Aside from Cristiano Roanldo and Lionel Messi who have 10 won Ballon d'Or awards between them in the last decade, the Russia 2018 edition will likely produce a star that will break their monopoly.

Here are the players that could light up the World Cup aside from Ronaldo and Messi.

1. Neymar

Despite the long lay off from the game after injuring his foot in a league match against Marseille, the Paris Saint-Germain star is back with a bang.

The 26-year-old scored a stunning goal in a warm up friendly against Croatia and added another in the 3-0 victory against Austria. Neymar seems ready to take on the world.

2. Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian has been the talk of the town this season as his eye-catching performance for Liverpool in the Premier League and the Champions League has won hearts all over the world.

Despite suffering a nasty shoulder injury in the Champions League final, the 25-year-old has bounced back and he is expected to replicate his form in league and cup games at the World Cup.

3. Kevin De Bruyne

The king assist in the Premier League with Manchester City will be taking his trade to the national team level with Belgium in the coming World Cup.

De Bruyne played the best football in his career in City's triumphant 2017/18 campaign and he is arguably the best passer of the ball. The World Cup will bring another dimension into his game.

4. Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez

The Uruguay national team will definitely pose a threat to other teams at the Mundial. Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani are expected to be firing their team to beyond the first round.

Both strikers helped their respective sides teams to league and cup success with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain. Defenders will also have a field day handling the talented pair.

5. Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann

In terms of making football look easy, the France internationals have all it takes to blow away the fans with their uncommon talent.

6. Harry Kane

The England captain has scored double figures in four consecutive seasons and he is ready to take on the World in Russia with his precision in front of goal.

Kane will be looking to become the second English man to win the Golden Boot award after Gary Linekar in the 1990 World Cup.

7. David de Gea

It is difficult to pick the best out the bunch in the star-studded Spanish squad but the Manchester United number one has had an impeccable season with the Red Devils.

The 27-year-old has made mouth-watering saves that has ranked him as the number one shot-stopper going into the soccer fiesta.

8. Thomas Muller

With eight World Cup goals in his name, the German striker has proven to be one of the potent attackers going into the tournament.

Muller needs to score just six more goals to meet up with Miroslav Klose's all time goal scoring feat as Joachim Low's side have been tipped to be favourites for the competition.
