The IBO Lightweight world title older, Emmanuel Tagoe has been stripped of the his title. The "Game Boy" as he is affectionately known, was left disappointed as the world governing body wrote to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) to confirm this.
Tagoe holds a record of 28 victories to 1 defeat while boasting 14 knockouts. He was supposed to have fought a mandatory defence bout on June 17th. disappointed after the IBO stripped him of his lightweight world title.
His opponent was going to be Russian Fedor Papazov. Tagoe failed a weight compliance order before the June 17th because he was not preparing for the fight.
A letter from the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) sent to the GBA read:
“I regret to inform you that on May 21st the IBO Championships Committee ordered that the IBO World Lightweight title held by Emmanuel Tagoe be vacated due to his failure to comply with the requirements of the IBO Championship Rules and Regulations.”
It was signed by IBO president Ed Levine.
Tagoe won the IBO belt in December 2016 after claiming a one-sided unanimous decision win over South African Mzonke Fana.
