Germany beaten 1-0 by Mexico in World Cup 2018 opener

The World Cup in Russia continued to deliver as promised with Germany and Mexico offering us a scintillating 90 minutes of pure footballers bliss.

Defending Champions of 2014 Germany, were handed an unforeseen defeat by Mexico, seeing them off 1-0 in the well attended Luzhinki stadium on Sunday, June 17.

Mexico, easily considered the underdogs used their electrifying pace to their advantage catching the Germans flatfooted on several occasions.

And it wasn't before long that Mexico drew first blood getting a shot past Manuel Neuer much to the dismay of the onlooking Joachim Low.

Hirving Lozano cut inside beating Messut Ozil, who attempted to sprint back to defend and provide cover.

Lozana found space for a shot and did not fail to deliver, hammering the ball low defeating Neuer.

Die Mannschaft fans clearly did not see this coming, as German after German attacks were thwarted by the ever enduring Mexicans, determined to prove a point to the favourites.

However, Germany were not to be disheartened so easily and kept the pressure on Mexico right to the dying minutes of the game with opportunity after opportunity failing to go beyond Guillermo Ochoa.

Despite over 20 shots at goal and some pretty impressive football from Germany they just could not seem to find the back of the net.

The win earns Mexico a much deserved three points and sees them go top of their Group F table.
