- Martin Amidu has been told to investigate John Mahama
- The call follows claims that the former president diverted some cash meant for development projects in the Western Region
- It is not certain if Martin Amidu will heed this call especially when Mahama enjoys special immunity
The special prosecutor, Martin Amidu, has been petitioned to launch an investigation into claims of financial malfeasance by the former president John Dramani Mahama.
The petition was filed by some four private citizens who claim the former president diverted a $13 million fund meant for the development of the Western Region from the E.O. Group.
The petitioners, Emmanuel Owusu, Eric Dumenu Akatsi, Peprah Kyei Baffour and Dawda Eric they are committed to "invoke section 3(1)(b) of the Office of the Special Prosecutor Act,2017(Act 959) to have former President John Dramani investigated for alleged diversion of $13m meant for the development of Western Region from the E.O. group of company as part of their corporate social responsibilities. The petitioners are citizens of the Republic of Ghana with the constitutional right to expose and combat crime in the interest of the good people of Ghana".
So far, the office of the former president is yet to comment on this development as the special communicator on behalf of Mahama, Bawa Mogtari insists the move is a diversionary tactic by the NPP administration.
It remains unclear if Martin Amidu will consider pursuing Mahama especially when the former president enjoys a sense of immunity from probing and prosecution.
