Ghana ready for terrorist attack - Gov't

- The government says it is prepared to fight off any terrorist attack

The government says it is prepared to face any terrorist attack in the country.This is coming from the director of the counter-terrorism at the national security, COP (RTD) George Asiamah, who says a 'multi-agency' approach has been tasked to deal with every kind of potential terrorist attack in Ghana.

National Security Ministry has said it has developed a multi-agency approach aimed at dealing with any form potential terrorist attack in the country.

In an interaction at a workshop on West Africa National Security and Armoured Vehicles, COP (rtd) George Asiamah said there was the need for multiagency cooperation to fight terrorism.

The workshop saw Ghana demonstrate the tactical and intellectual preparedness of the security services in dealing with any potential terrorist attack against the country. Earlier on, the defense minister, Dominic Nitiwul, said the country’s terror alert has been raised over the past months following threats of terrorism across the world.

According to him, the government is currently putting in place measures to ensure that the country’s frontiers are well equipped with security gadgets that could detect possible weapons of destruction.

The defense minister minced no words in Parliament when he confessed that, “Ghana is not as safe as we think”. Speaking on the practical ways by which Ghana could be safeguarded from the ills of global terrorism, the defense minister assured that government will be deploying more members of the anti-terrorist task-force at vantage places in the country so as to arrest any case of attack.

The concern raised by the defense minister follows past terrorist attacks in Ivory Coast and Kenya. Nigeria is also battling with the puzzle of the Boko Haram militant group as millions of lives along the Northern belt of the country remains at high risk of attack.
