Korle-bu doctor feared dead at Teshie after Accra floods

- The Korle-Bu doctor was allegedly washed away in her car by the flood water at Teshie

- The doctor's mangled saloon car has been discovered by some residents of Teshie-Rasta

A medical practitioner at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, is feared dead hours after a heavy downpour in Accra on Monday night.

According to XYZ report, the deceased, Adwoa Esson was allegedly washed away in her saloon car during the heavy downpour around 11pm.

An eyewitness who spoke to Accra-based radio XYZ, disclosed that the medical practitioner’s Hyundai Sonata got submerged when she attempted to drive through the flood near ‘Naa Pra’ lagoon at Teshie Rasta.

The eyewitness revealed that the flood current was too heavy that it toppled the the doctor’s Hyundai saloon vehicle over the broken bridge into the lagoon where she was carried away.

“When she got here around 11pm, the whole place was flooded. The bridge broke and the car started moving into the lagoon when she attempted to drive through. People gave her a metal bar to help her out but it was not working. I kept shouting but we couldn’t get any help,” the eyewitness narrated.

Another eyewitness added that, she the deceased had initially broken out of the floating car but was unable to make it out, unlike two other passengers who had earlier been pulled out by some residents who met the incident as it unfolded.

Meanwhile, XYZ News visit to the scene discovered the doctor’s mangled salon car filled with debris about 500 metres away from the main ‘Bush’ road after it was forced under an adjoining bridge towards the Kpeshie Lagoon.

However, some officials from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), who arrived at the scene on Tuesday morning to assess the situation were seen interacting with the distraught family who had rushed to the scene on hearing the news of the incident.
