Drug alert: FDA raises red flag over fake Coaterm and Zentel pills

- The sale of counterfeit malaria drugs and dewormers in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions has caused the FDA to issue a health alert

- The FDA has warned consumers to seriously look out for these drugs which don't have seals from the FDA

- These fake drugs being circulated have been linked to high cases of malaria and worm infestations in both regions

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has issued an alert over the illegal sale of some fake drugs in the Ashanti and Eastern Regions.

These drugs, Coaterm and Zentel, are being counterfeited and sold on the counters of various pharmacies in these regions - a situation which places thousands of residents and buyers there in mortal danger.

These drugs, according to the FDA, contains poisonous substances which pose a threat to the organs of the body including the Liver and Kidney.

Market surveillance conducted by the FDA shows that these two drugs tested positive after failing the Truscan RM analyzer which revealed the toxic substances in both fake pills of Coartem and Zentel.

The reason why these fake drugs are being circulated is yet to be uncovered but the choice by these veiled drug companies and conmen to feast on the Coartem-Zentel brand of medication could be linked to the high cases of malaria and intestinal worm infestations in both regions.

Unfortunately, the hike in counterfeit drugs has not just caused much profit for these peddlers but also left their victims to die from the complication of Malaria especially when the drugs that have been dispensed are fake and unproductive.

In view of the probability of the above products finding their way into your facilities, one has to check for the presence or availability of these products, detain and report tot he FDA immediately, Excerpts of a press statement by the CEO of FDA, Delese A.A Darko argued.

The warning by the FDA follows previous surveillance activity by the authority which uncovered the sale of some enhancement drugs which cause grave disadvantage to male consumers battling with erectile dysfunction.

These drugs, containing Sildenafil, had the harsh power of releasing Adrenalin into male consumers that helps to deal with issues of erectile dysfunction.
