- More visas will soon be issued out to Ghanaians in the coming months
- The US ambassador says this is due to the growing number of visa applications from Ghana
- In 2017 alone, the US issued 16,000 visas to Ghanaians
The US ambassador to Ghana has revealed that more visas will be issued to Ghanaians especially this year of 2018.
Robert Jackson in an interview with Citi FM has revealed that even though the US issues 16,000 visas to Ghanaians as at 2017, there are plans to increase that amount by 30 percent in the coming months.
“We issued 16,000 visas last year. This year, we are going to issue a higher number because visa demand is up by between 30 and 60 percent. We haven’t seen the final numbers but that is why we are interviewing so many people each day to attempt to meet the demand,” he said.

This assurance by the ambassador follows an earlier warning to Ghana by the US government over government's failure to issue visas for Ghanaian deportees.
The statement, which was issued over the week, stated that Ghana was fifth on the list of countries the US is planning to impose travel sanctions on.
Hundreds of Ghanaians have been deported from the US since the Trump administration in 2016. The government even had to come in at some point in time to raise concerns over the manner in which Ghanaians being deported are often treated and handled in their flights back to Ghana.
In the midst of the strict immigration laws of the USA, millions of Ghanaians still defy all odds to seek greener pastures in America.
