- Radamel Falcao scored his first World Cup goal against Poland on Sunday night
- Colombia have it all to play for against Senegal on Thursday
Poland were kicked out of the World Cup after succumbing to a 3-0 defeat against Colombia. It was a match that saw Radamel Falcao score his first World Cup goal.
Falcao's goal alongside the other two revived the hopes of Colombia for the second round of the World Cup. Colombia had lost their first game to Japan by two goals to 1.
Yerry Mina's header got the party underway for the South Americans in the 40th minute. The Barcelona connected to sweet in-field cross from Juan Quintero.
Poland never seemed to find a foot in the game even after the break.
In the second half, Monaco striker Falcao stroked home his 30th international goal. This made him the highest scorer for the Colombian national team.
The goal came midway through the second half of a cagey encounter in Kazan. Defeat for either side would have meant elimination from the competition. And Colombia seemed to have warmed up to that warning a bit more.
With 15 minutes left on the clock, James' pass from the left found Cuadrado in space through the middle. The Juventus winger took two touche before placing an assured finish into the bottom-right corner of the net.
Colombia almost added a fourth after a mix-up between Jan Bednarek and Szczesny, but Uribe's backheel was cleared off the goal line to leave the final score 3-0.
Jose Pekerman's side are now on three points in Group H, one point behind co-leaders Japan and Senegal ahead of their crunch match against the latter on Thursday. Poland play Japan on the same day.
