The 2018 World Cup has so far lived up to expectation, especially for the number of goals scored after just two rounds of matches.
But while the main focus is on who eventually will lift the tournament trophy, there is also a mini battle over who walks away with the golden boot.
For many years the top scorer accolade at the World Cup has been keenly contested by players that tend to be potent upfront for their nations.

This year has been no different.
Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, England’s Harry Kane and Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku have taken the lead as early contenders for the golden boot at this year’s World Cup in Russia.
But who will it be?
Initially it looked like it will be Ronaldo after he scored that sensational hat-trick against Spain in the opening game.
However, Kane and Lukaku have subsequently shown that they cannot be ruled out of the picture.
Ronaldo has scored four goals in just two games, but if you want to realise how keen the golden boot race is then you only have to look at the fact that someone else has five.
Following Kane’s own hat-trick in England’s 6-1 win over Panama, the Tottenham Hotspur striker has moved ahead as the current top scorer in the World Cup, having also scored two in the opening game against Tunisia.
Kane is not new to winning golden boots, having topped the Premier League scoring charts three time already.
But there’s another name who looks like he will definitely challenge for the World Cup golden boot – Belgium’s Lukaku.
Not many fancied the Manchester United striker in the build up to the World Cup, however, the 24-year-old has so far shown some impressive form in front of a goal.
In two games, Lukaku has scored doubles – against Panama and Tunisia – and he is primed to prove a point, to finally win a golden boot at a major tournament.
So, once again who will it be?
The race is tough and very close, but it is still anyone’s game and there is no doubt that one of the aforementioned players will end up with the golden boot in Russia.
