All African teams have been booted out of the 2018 World Cup, but it appears the continent still has massive representation in Russia.
Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria and Senegal all disappointed big time after failing to make it past the group stages of the tournament.
However, in France, Africa can genuinely lay claim to still having representative at the global showpiece.
Didier Deschamps’ team has as many as 14 players of African descent – that is more than half of the France squad.
Although a European nation, France is a country that has always welcomed black players into their national team.
In 1999 when they won the World Cup, then likes of Lilian Thruam, Marcel Desailly and Patrick Vieira were all key players in that team.
Twenty years on, and France are back on the world stage again, this time with even more black players than ever.
Les Bleus are one of the favourites in Russia, but that is because of the depth in quality that the team possesses.
Paul Pogba, Kylian Mbappe, Nabil Fekir, Ousmane Dembele and Blaise Matuidi have all proven to be an integral part of the current France set-up.
If you think Africa is still not in this World Cup, then you are joking (well, I must be joking too right?).
