Former President, John Dramani Mahama, and wife, Lordina, have visited the widow of the late former vice president, Matilda Amissah-Arthur and the family to commiserate with them.
John Mahama is reported to have cut short his trip upon hearing the sad news of the former vice president's death.
Accompanied by some former ministers of state and top executives of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama took time to sign the Book of Condolence.
Here are the words of Mahama:
“Paa Kwesi was not only my Vice President, we had worked together for a long time from when I was the deputy minister for communication and he was the deputy minister of Finance. When Professor Atta Mills nominated me as his running mate, Paa Kwesi was instrumental in helping to raise funding and financing for the campaign.
He was made the Governor of the Bank of Ghana. That was when I got even closer to him because he was the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and I was the Chair of the Economic Management Team and so at the all the Economic Management meetings, we discussed how to handle the economy.”
Mr. Mahama described the late Vice President as a man who knew what he was about, indicating that he was a very good choice as Vice President.
“He served with distinction, he was a perfect gentleman. Indeed people say I have the same disposition as him and so they wondered how two gentlemen could govern a country, but I must say that his experience and a lot of practical knowledge he has in project implementation made us able to achieve within four years, some of the successes that we achieved as a government,” he stated.
Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur was the former vice president of Ghana under the erstwhile Mahama administration. Paa Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur was born on 29 April 1951.
He is a Ghanaian economist, academic and politician who was the sixth Vice-President of Ghana, in office from 6 August 2012 until 7 January 2017, under President John Dramani Mahama.
