MUSIGA to meet Tamale MCE for banning concerts at Tamale Stadium

The Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), is planning to hold a crucial meeting with the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tamale, Iddrisu Musah Superior, over his intention to ban concerts at the Tamale Sports Stadium.

The MCE has issued a directive to ban all musical concerts and other entertainment related shows at the Tamale Stadium after some fans of hiplife artiste, Fancy Gadam and Zylofon Media staff died in an accident ahead of a concert on Thursday June 29.

According to the Vice President of MUSIGA, Bessa Simons, the leadership of the union will hold an executive meeting with the MCE to overturn his decision.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Bessa Simons, disclosed that banning musical concerts at the Tamale Sports stadium was not in the best interest of the union, but will propose some alternative solutions to the MCE.

“We will talk to him about rescinding his decision on the ban but that will depend on exactly on what happened and what has been happening so that we will understand the situation properly,” he said.

Bessa Simons stated that the union would meet with the MCE to discuss the way forward as in helping to forestall future occurrences of such tragedies.

“When meeting him we will discuss it and we will come to a solution that will prevent this from happening again,” he noted.

The MUSIGA Vice President finally sympathized with families of the deceased and Zylofon Media whose staff lost their lives after going to Tamale to support the programme.

The victims of the accidents were on their way to the Tamale Airport to welcome Nigerian Artiste, Patoranking ahead of Fancy Gadam’s concert on Saturday, 30th June, 2018 when they met their untimely death.

According to media reports, the vehicle which conveyed the fans collided with another vehicle which caused the driver to veer off the road.

Eight (8) people including two workers of Zylofon Media died while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

Due to the accident, management of Fancy Gadam cancelled the concert which was to take place at the Tamale Sports Stadium, one of the major venues for outdoor entertainment programmes.
