- Konadu Rawlings is reported to have acquired lands illegally in the Eastern Region
- Residents in the region want government to intervene in the matter
- The land was acquired by the government to grow pineapple to feed Nsawam Cannery when the factory was established
The former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings, has angered residents of communities in the Eastern Region for allegedly grabbing about 700 acres of land.
On July 4th, residents of four communities staged a massive demonstration against the former first lady as they say the property she grabbed stretched from Nsawam Cannery all the way to the Koans Estate enclave.
The massive demonstration saw residents from Adoagyiri, Owuraku, Ntoaso and Akwamu march from the Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipal Assembly to present a petition to the government through the Chief Executive.
These angry demonstrators want Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings stopped from selling the sprawling property to a private developer.
The large swathe of land was acquired by the government to grow pineapple to feed Nsawam Cannery when the factory was established.
The influence of Konadu Rawlings in the political sphere of Ghana is still evasive.
YEN.com.gh had reported on how Konadu Rawlings could be secretly plotting against the return of ex-president Mahama into the presidential race ahead of the 2020 elections.
A pro-NDC group by name the Concerned Binduri Youth claims the former first lady is using her pressure group, the31 December Women’s Movement to lobby against the former president.
A statement by the pro-NDC group is thus calling on John Dramani Mahama to either act fast to revert the plans of the former first lady or risk killing his presidential ambitions.
In the meantime, there are high suspicions over the possibility of some members of the NDC convincing the former first lady to join the party for a formidable team in the 2020 elections.
This move, YEN.com.gh is gathering, forms part of efforts to create a solidifying force against the NPP administration.
