- Police officer has slapped an official for reportedly misbehaving
- The civilian had his wallet taken by the officer
- This event happened during a court hearing between the attorney general and Opuni
Some police officials have been caught on camera slapping civilians just at the forecourt of the Accra High Court.
In a video by Ghanaweb, a police officer, was seen slapping a gentleman in his mid-thirties so hard that one could hear the sounds of slaps meters away.
In the midst of this encounter, you could see other Ghanaians including lawyers make their way past the two without any reaction.
So far, the reason(s) for the slaps are unknown but there are claims the police gave one of them a hot chase and the gentleman, upon apprehension, suffered resounding smacks across the face.
According to Ghanaweb, the police retrieved a purse from a victim and kicked him out of the premises.
The bag of another victim was thoroughly searched after which he was also driven away. Just like his ‘colleague’, he was also spared.
This event happened when the Attorney-General was ordered by the court to furnish the embattled former CEO of COCOBOD, Dr. Stephen Opuni, with some documents from the Economic Organised Office (EOCO) and other state agencies to enable the former COCOBOD Chief Executive put up his defence in a suit in which he has been accused of causing financial loss to the state.
Police brutality is an act frowned upon by law. In most cases, there are suits against such officials especially when these brutalities tend to be fatal.
