My girlfriend left me when I had depression – David Oscar

Ghanaian comedian, David Oscar Dogbe, has disclosed that his girlfriend ditched him when he faced some challenges in his comedy career.

According to Oscar, the situation made him went through serious depression for months without getting help from friends.

Speaking on Accra-based Citi FM with Jessica, David Oscar revealed that out of frustration, he was forced to venture into music.

“I went through depression for about a month and it was quite surprising to me because I am a happy person. I am an open-hearted person. I do not think evil about somebody but unfortunately it happened to me,” he said.

The comedian in his conversation stated that the situation was so bad for him that it nearly ruined his life.

“Then I got to understand that this is what happens to people and then sometimes you hear that somebody is dead without knowing what really killed them,” he added.

David Oscar who is now a reggae artiste stated that his girlfriend who could have offered him comfort during the difficult times also betrayed him.

“I couldn’t eat, I couldn’t think, and there was no one to even confide in. Look, I lost my woman because of this. Because during those days I was going through a lot. I didn’t know what to do. I needed time to gather my thoughts and put things in perspective,” he said.

When asked exactly what could have been the reason he was jilted by his girlfriend, David said he didn’t know whether she realized he was in that state but staying out of job may have contributed to it.

“Her excuse was that I stopped everything, that I said I was not doing comedy again,” he disclosed.

David who was clearly disappointed in his interview added that he felt at that point the lady was somebody he could rely on financially, because he didn’t have any job and didn’t know where the next meal was coming from.

However, he got a shock of his life after her girlfriend openly told him her money was not meant to feed him.

David Oscar became popular for his TV comedy show, however his career suffered a serious setback after he was widely criticized for not being funny.

This he said made sponsors and many industry players sidelined him until his show was taken off TV.

David Oscar is so far out with songs like ‘Monalisa,’ ‘Legal Tender,’ ‘Get there One Day,’ ‘Never Chat Dem’ and ‘Rasta Love.’

David is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Ghana and has also starred in movies such as ‘Peep,’ ‘Tenant,’ among others.

He also hosted shows on Viasat 1 TV, Atlantis Radio, Vision FM and XFM.
