YEN.com.gh recently reported the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC) from office, along with two of her deputies.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) immediately called for a press conference and challenged the action of President Nana Akufo-Addo with respect to the EC.
This was immediately followed by the untimely death of Former Vice President Paa Kwesi Amissah Arthur.
As a result, Charlotte Osei released a statement saying that the nation is in mourning and as such, she will respond to the decision of the president in due time.
YEN.com.gh understands that Charlotte Osei is still nonetheless listed as the head of the commission on its website.
The dismissal of the three public officers was as a result of the decision of a committee set up by the Chief Justice, Sophia Akuffo.
This was done pursuant to article 146(4) of the Constitution, to investigate separate complaints brought against the three persons by Ghanaian citizens, recommended their removal from office.
The Committee recommended their removal on the basis of stated misbehaviour and incompetence, pursuant to Article 146(1) of the Constitution.
President Akufo-Addo has meanwhile indicated his intention to appoint a new Chairperson, who will display political neutrality, with respect to the work of the EC.
