- The AIDS commission will be distributing condoms at the delegates congress
- The commission says this is to reduce the rate of HIV infections
- About 6000 delegates are expected at the delegates congress
The national delegates conference of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will not just be about the politics but also the protection of delegates from sexually transmitted diseases and infections.
The Ghana AIDS Commission will be distributing free condoms to all candidates and supporters attending the program in the Eastern Region.
Eastern regional technical coordinator of the Ghana AIDS Commission, says all is set to prevent everyone attending the program from sexually transmitted diseases.
According to her, though the prevalence rate in the region has slightly reduced to 2.1% it translates to the fact that 21 persons out of every 1000 residents in the region have HIV/AIDS.
In total, 6000 delegates will be present for the NPP delegates congress which will see the election of new executives including the national chairperson position.
Ghana remains one of the countries that rely heavily on funding from donor partners for anti-retroviral treatment.
What this means is that should these partners refuse not give in aid, Ghana's HIV management could be on the brink of a health threat.
According to report, the government only contributes 7 percent to the funding of HIV drugs with 93 percent of the money coming from the private sector. As it stands now, the Volta and Brong Ahafo regions are the hardest when it comes to HIV infections.
