Former president of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. John Dramani Mahama, has eulogized the immediate past vice president, Mr. Paa Kswesi Amissah-Arthur one week after his passing after he collapsed and died on June 29, 2018
John Mahama took to his official Facebook page to celebrate his friend, colleague and 2-time running mate as today marks exactly one week of his passing.
His post on Facebook read, “It is already a week and I still recall vividly my shock when my assistant broke the sad news shortly after I stepped off a flight in Munich. The time spent seeking confirmation and praying that it wasn't true was one of the longest waits one has experienced. Paa Kwesi served with distinction as Vice President, and was an efficient Governor of the Bank of Ghana.”
Former President Mahama revealed that he was utterly shocked by the news of Mr. Amissah-Arthur’s passing.
According to Mr. Mahama, the former BoG governor was involved in the NDC’s constituency election less than 2 week ago; making it hard to believe that he could die in such a manner.
A church service is believed to be ongoing in memory of the former vice president.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in responding to the death of the former statesman, ordered a 5-day mourning period and also gave an executive order for flags to fly at half-mast during the said period.
Reports indicated that the former statesman was rushed to the 37 Military hospital after he collapsed at the Air force Gym on Friday, June 29.
The former Veep was confirmed dead at the health facility and the news sparked nationwide grief with many people taking to social media to commiserate with the bereaved family.
Many past and present government officials, celebrities and Ghanaians in general have all commiserated with the family of the late former vice president, NDC and the nation as a whole.
Before becoming vice president in August 2012, Mr. Amissah-Arthur was Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.
From 1983 to 1986, he served as a special assistant to the Secretary of Finance and Economic Planning, Kwesi Botchwey under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) government.
He also served as the Deputy Secretary for Finance in the PNDC government from February 1986 to March 1993.
From April 1993, he continued as the Deputy Minister for Finance in the under the Fourth Republic’s first government until March 1997.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur was appointed as Governor of the Bank of Ghana in October 2009 by then-President John Atta Mills.
