Real Madrid’s new boss Julen Lopetegui, has completed the signing of Spain’s international Alvaro Odriozola in a £35m deal from Real Sociedad, according to the Los Blancos.
The UEFA Champions’ League winners revealed via Twitter handle that the 22-year-old signed a six-year deal after making 50 La Liga appearances for Real Sociedad since breaking into the first-team of his boyhood club during the 2016-17 campaign.
Odriozola was listed in Spain's La Roja World Cup squad penned a six-year deal with the Los Blancos after they paid out his buyout clause with eggheads of the Spanish FA.
Reacting on Odriozola’s switch to the Los Blancos, Real Sociedad hailed the player for his act of professionalism.
"Real Sociedad has reached an agreement for the transfer of the player Álvaro Odriozola to Real Madrid CF.
"We want to thank Álvaro Odriozola for the professionalism and commitment shown during his stay in our club from his youth years to the first team, at the same time as wishing him the best for his personal and professional future.”
Interestingly, the Spanish international teamed up with Sociedad as an 11 year-old in 2006, and worked his way through the club's youth ranks.
During last campaign he featured 41 times for the club's senior side across all competitions, as well as making his international debut with the La Roja in their 3-0 victory over Albania last October.
The 22-year-old was also listed by Lopetegui in his 23-man squad for the ongoing World Cup in Russia; he netted his first goal for Spain on June 3, in their pre-World Cup 1-1 draw with Switzerland.
Sadly, Odriozola failed to taste action before La Roja was bundled out of the global football fiesta in the last 16 rounds.
Already, Odriozola's arrival is expected to force Morocco’s Hakim Achraf to join Bundesliga side, Borussia Dortmund on a two-year loan switch.
