The Ghanaian ICT teacher who drew the Microsoft Word interface on a blackboard to teach his students, has received a $10,000 honourary scholarship to pursue a Master's degree in Education.
Richard Akoto Appiah became an internet sensation when his exploits in using drawings on a blackboard to teach his students how use Microsoft Word went viral some months ago.
The 34-year-old, who teaches at Betenase M/A Junior High School in the town of Sekyedomase, posted photos of how he takes his pupils through ICT lessons on Facebook, leading to many reviews.
His exploits led to the deprived school receiving laptops from Microsoft, while other NGOs and institutions also donated ICT gadgets to help the students build their knowledge in the field.
On a personal level, Akoto was featured on international media firms like the CNN and BBC and was also invited to attend the Microsoft Education Exchange 2018, which was held in Singapore in March.
However, the teacher has seen his exploits receive further rewards after receiving a $10,000 honourary scholarship from UNICAF to pursue a Master’s degree in Education.
In a Facebook post, Akoto announced his latest reward, whiles thanking God for granting him such an opportunity.
"Hard work pays. $10000 Master's in Education Degree Scholarship. Thanks to UNICAF. Aseda Nka Awurade," he wrote on his timeline.
