-An expectant mother and her unborn baby have died as a result of their inability to pay some money
-According to the report, the money which was requested was to motivate the doctor
A 30-year-old pregnant woman died with her unborn baby at the Suntreso Government Hospital in Kumasi on Wednesday, 4 July 2018 after her inability to immediately raise and pay an amount of GHC 500 for motivation.
According to a report sighted by YEN.com.gh on Classfmonline.com, the pregnant woman was refused entry into the labor ward because her husband could not immediately pay a GHC 500 which was meant as 'Doctor’s Motivation Fee'.
The pregnant woman, Angela Afriyie Agyemang, died at the theatre just as her husband was able to come up with the GHC 500 ‘motivation’ for which she had been denied medical attention.
The husband of the deceased, Pastor Solomon Lamo Latiff of the House of Faith Ministry in Kumasi, said he had taken his wife to the hospital to deliver.
The report had it that he took her to the facility on Tuesday, July 3 when she started experiencing labor pains after her due date exceeded by a week.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Class91.3FM, husband of the deceased told Moro Awudu on Executive Breakfast Show that one Dr. Sarpong informed him that a Cesarean Section had to be done on his wife.
He was, however, told that he had to pay an amount of GHC 500 as doctor motivation fee before his wife could be taken into the theater for the operation.
The pastor has made his intentions clear on suing the hospital for medical negligence.
According to him, the hospital allowed several other pregnant women who were in labor into the theatre while his wife was kept sitting in a wheelchair for over three hours due to his inability to immediately pay the GHC 500 'Doctor Motivation Fee'.
