Charlotte Osei caused the death of our colleague - EC workers reveal

- Workers of the EC are blaming the former chairperson for causing the death of their colleague

- The workers, who petitioned the presidency to sack Charlotte Osei, say she failed to sign a health request form

- There are also calls for Charlotte Osei to be prosecuted

The woes of the embattled former electoral commissioner, Charlotte Osei, continuous to worsen as the workers of the EC who called for her removal say she is to blame for the death of their colleague.

These aggrieved petitioners say Charlotte Osei's bad blood with their late colleague, George Avukawey, caused him his life.

According to them, the late George Avukawey become seriously sick and was seeking for financial assistance from the EC to help him access health care but was subsequently denied.

“He became very sick and needed Madam Charlotte Osei to just sign a document for him to seek health care but because he was one of us, he was denied the support and through that, our friend to pass on,” they revealed.

The workers say the dismissal of Charlotte Osei and her two deputies is not enough punishment and they want the president to trigger a prosecution attempt against her and the two deputies.

“We shall leave no stone unturned in our quest to ensure that she faces the full effects of the law which she gleefully breached with wanton recklessness,” the workers said at a press briefing.

The dismissal of all three electoral commissioners was due to what the president described as 'incompetence and misbehaviour'.

YEN.com.gh had earlier explored the possible reasons for a resignation or termination of the contract on the part of the EC commissioner and Nana Addo respectively. This was after various controversies ahead of the 2016 elections alleged she was secretly doing the bidding of the erstwhile Mahama administration.

The firing of Charlotte Osei and her deputies traces back to a 27-point petition filed by some angry workers of the Electoral Commission (EC) who cited instances of the abuse of power, mismanagement of public funds and causing of financial loss to the state as probable reasons for their dismissal.

These angry workers claimed Madam Osei fiercely abused the powers of her office in the awarding of "fraudulent" contracts to some companies including the Superlock Technologies Limited (STL) and IT Firm, DreamOval which she paid $76,000 to. So far, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) looks not surprised by this action which they had seen coming even before the 2016 general elections.
