Popular Kumawood actor, Joseph Nana Kofi Osei, widely known as Wayoosi, has revealed that he was paid only GHC50 by directors for playing a role in his first movie that made him famous.
According to Wayoosi, he was not bothered about the amount paid to him at the time, but rather felt honored being on set with popular movie actors, including Agya Koo.
Speaking recently on Accra-based Kasapa FM, the diminutive actor said Agya Koo, who was the most experienced actor among the cast at the time received the highest amount of GHC200 for his role in the same movie.
He further disclosed that he earned the name Wayoosi after playing a shocking role with popular stars such, Mikki Osei Berko, Santo, the late Suzzy Williams among others.
“My first time on a movie set, acting with top actors like Agya Koo, Santo, Joojo Robertson, Master Richard and Suzzy Williams was in a movie titled ‘Awieye’. I was a bit nervous seeing these actors but I mastered courage and played my role very well. All the actors clapped for me after my role on set,” Wayoosi said.
Wayoosi also stated that he owes it all to famous actor, Mikki Osei Berko, aka Master Richard for handpicking him and showing him the way into the movie industry.
“Master Richard approached me to feature in his popular television series, Dada Boat. So through Master Richard, I got the name Wayoosi. I received GHC50.00 as pay for the role I played in ‘Ma Tricki’ movie… Agya Koo also received GHC200.00 for that same movie,” he said.
The actor, who doubles as radio personality became famous through Kumawood movie production.
Wayoosi is also said to have ventured into business and is making more money from the sector.
