The former minister of foreign affairs, Hanna Tetteh, has been appointed as the Director-General of the UN's office at Nairobi, Kenya.
This was made known in an announcement made by the UN secretary-general, António Guterres.
Hanna Tetteh succeeds Ms. Sahle-Work Zewde who was previously appointed a special representative to the African Union and Head of the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU).
This is the first-ever major international appointment by the former trade and industry minister since being a minister of foreign affairs.
She served as Minister for Trade and Industry from 2009 to 2013 under former President John Atta Mills and Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2017 during President John Mahama's tenure.
Madam Tetteh is a practicing lawyer who holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Ghana.
She was also the Member of Parliament for the Awutu-Senya West constituency in the Central Region.
